Understanding the Green Wall

Algae provide a unique lens for understanding cell wall integrity (CWI) mechanisms due to their structural simplicity and evolutionary diversity. By studying algae, we can identify both general principles shared with land plants and adaptations specific to algae’s environments.

Our project explores:

  • How algal cell walls adapt to environmental stressors.

  • How CWI systems enable resilience and survival in extreme conditions.

  • The possible biotechnological applications of algae with modified cell walls

By comparing algal CWI pathways with those of plants, we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms of wall regulation. These insights advance plant biology and highlight algae's potential for sustainable applications, including biotechnology.
